Madera Speedway Revs Up for
Round #1 of Tri-Holiday Series, featuring the HotWood 750 Series,
this Saturday
The Madera Speedway will
return to action this Memorial weekend in the first of three big
Tri-Holiday events, featuring the HotWood 750 Series, with Whelen
Engineering Night on Saturday, May 24. This special NASCAR Whelen
All American Racing Series program will include seven divisions of
racing featuring the Western Late Models (WLM) in twin 75-lap mains
plus the American Limited Stock Cars (ALSC), Modified Super Toyotas,
Toyota Sedans, WSRA Minicup and Baby Grands and the always wild and
crazy Hornets
While the weather is beginning
to heat up as summer approaches, the battle for the 2008 Madera
track championship has already turned red hot. Only 14 lean points
separate the top four drivers in the current WLM season standings.
Kyle Gottula, age 21 of
Modesto, holds down the top spot in the battle for the 2008 Madera
track championship with 188 points, but 18 year old Trevor Schlundt,
of Clovis, has closed within four points of his lead on the strength
of three straight victories. Right on their heals sit Joey Stearns
and Ross Strmiska, both of Stockton, with 182 and 174 points
respectively. Modestos Jeff Belletto and Stocktons Vito Ranuio,
the current rookie points leader, round out the top six in the WLM
standings.
Defending Madera track and
NASCAR California State champion Mark Holeman, of Los Altos, is
expected to make his first Madera appearance since winning the
opening WLM race of the season back on March 29. The 22-year-old Cal
Poly San Luis Obispo mechanical engineering student and car owner
Ray Miller have decided to focus on the HotWood events in 2008.
We dont have a primary
sponsor, plus I have to graduate and then find a job, explained
Holeman earlier this season. It will be fun to race without the
pressure of worrying about points. We can just go for it.
A $1,500 purse goes to the winner of each of this
Saturdays HotWood 750 Series WLM features and the results count
toward the special $6,000 bonus points fund paid at the conclusion
of nine HotWood designated races on six nights at the Madera
Speedway. A total of 150 laps of WLM green flag racing
are guaranteed this Saturday as yellow caution laps will not count
in the two 75-lap mains.
In the ALSC division,
consistency has enabled Howard Holden, of Clovis, to take the early
lead in the season points over Stockton drivers Dennis Saunders Jr.
and Brian Vosburg. Holden has already racked up two wins and five
top three finishes in five ALSC races this year.
The early points fights in the
other divisions racing on Saturday are tighter than a $5 pair of
shoes. In the Modified Super Toyotas Maderas Randy Fleming Jr.
holds a 48-44 edge on fellow hometown driver and defending class
champion Shon Woody Woods; racing grandfather Miles Humphreys, of
Clovis, clings to a 56-54 lead over Maderas Jeff Dizney in the
Hornets; and Fresno pilots Jason Kerns and Stan Haskins sit in a
flat footed tie for the lead in the Toyota Sedans with 54 points
each.
The WSRA Baby Grands and
Minicup divisions are two-thirds and one-half scale replicas of
NASCAR Sprint Cup race cars that provide young drivers to develop
their racing skills. After three races on the 2008 WSRA schedule
Jacob Gomes, age 15 of Manteca, leads the Baby Grand division and
Rocklins John Bowman sits atop of Minicup. Both drivers scored wins
in the first visit by the WSRA at Madera on April 19.
There was some great news
recently for fans when Kenny Shepherd, President of the Madera
Speedway, announced new sponsorship from HotWood and Inside Lines
has enabled the speedway to lower ticket prices for the fans on six
race events during the 2008 racing season.
HotWood sponsorship has
enabled Madera to lower ticket prices on four major stock car races
this season on May 24th, August 2nd, August 30th,
and September 26th while Inside Lines Apparel and
Graphics Company sponsorship will enable the track to reduce prices
for the June 28th Summer Kick Off Party and the August 15th
Elvis Night at the Races programs. The price of tickets for these
events has been dropped by $5.00 for adults and $10.00 for family
packs.
Im excited we have been able
to partner with such fine companies as HotWood and Inside Lines to
provide high quality events and at the same time lower the cost of
tickets for our fans, commented Shepherd. We know the fans want a
show that is of the highest level of entertainment, and it is our
goal to give the fans the best value for their hard earned dollar.
We are excited that we have been able to lower ticket prices on
twelve race events this year thanks to strong sponsorship from our
marketing partners HotWood, Inside Lines and Madera Auto Center.
As a result, the new ticket
prices for this Saturdays, May 24, Whelen Engineering Night show
are now only $20.00 for adults, $18.00 for seniors 65 years of age
or older, $15.00 for students, active duty military and juniors age
13-17, $5.00 for kids age 6-12 while kids 5 and under are free when
accompanied by a paying adult. A family pack ticket (two adults and
up to two kids, 12 years old and under) is also available for the
bargain price of just $45.00. VISA and MasterCard are welcome at
window #3.
This Saturday Madera Speedway
registration will begin at 9:00 AM, the pit gates will open at 10:00
AM, practice begins at noon, the grandstands open at 3:00 PM, trophy
dashes will commence at 5:00 PM and the evenings opening ceremonies
will kick off main event racing at approximately 6:00 PM.

Press Release, Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway
For Immediate Release
Salute to Indy at Thunderbowl Raceway adds another
Kaeding to the mix
By Gary Thomas Tulare, CA May 22, 2008?The second annual Salute to Indy at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway will get more exciting this Sunday night as veteran Tim Kaeding of San Jose will throw his name into the mix for the $500 bonus to the highest finishing winged sprint car driver at the event. Kaeding will come into the USAC/CRA "Salute to Indy" this Sunday night fresh off his second career victory in the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial last Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. TK drove the Tom Rolfe Racing, Lucas Oil Products No. 10 into the lead with just 10 laps left in the feature and proceeded to hold off a hard charging Roger Crockett at the finish. So far on the season Kaeding has won a total of four main events, including a thriller at the Thunderbowl Raceway on April 26. His other two starts in Tulare this year have brought finishes of second and fourth at the 1/3 mile clay oval. In the past the 29 year-old has experienced much success at the Thunderbowl including wins at the Trophy Cup and the National Sprint Tour finale in 2006, as well as a World of Outlaws victory in February of 07. In his career Kaeding has made limited starts without the wing but has had a lot of bright runs in those starts. Last season he tied with Robert Ballou for the Sprint Bandits TnT Midwest Swing title and also led much of the main event during the Saturday portion of the Oval Nationals at the Perris Auto Speedway. The former King of California also made a wingless 410 start at the Thunderbowl in April of 04 while driving for Central Valley car owner Dennis Roth. An extra $1,500 is also on the line for the top five highest finishing winged sprint car drivers thanks to Central, CA companies KRC Safety, Sharp Insurance and Elite Landscaping. The payoff for the bonus will be: $500 for the highest finisher, $400 for the second, $300 for the third, $200 for the fourth and $100 for the fifth. T. Kaeding will be one of the many drivers on hand Sunday night, which will also include brother Bud Kaeding, Cory Kruseman, Mike Spencer, Blake Miller, Danny Sheridan, Peter Murphy and more. The front gate will open at 5pm Sunday night with reserved grandstand tickets costing $18 and general admission bleacher seats $15. More info can be found at http://www.thunderbowlraceway.com The Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway is located at the Tulare County Fairgrounds on the corner of Bardsley and K Streets in Tulare. PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY... 18700 Lake Perris Drive... Perris, CA 92571 (951) 940-0134 Contact Scott Daloisio (909) 226-7768 or Kim Donner (951) 940-0134 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CADILLAC CODY WILLIAMS PREPARES FOR SALUTE TO INDY AND HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION! (MAY 20, 2008, PERRIS, CA) This Saturday night, May 24th, there will be a familiar name in the field when Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply presents the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and the PASSCAR Modifieds in the Annual Salute to Indy at Don Kazarian’s famous Perris Auto Speedway. That name is Williams and it has been a part of the Salute to Indy dating back to the days of J.C. Agajanian’s legendary Ascot Park in Gardena. However, this Williams is different. Instead of being legendary driver Rip Williams, it is his son, 18-year old Cody. Spectator gates to watch the show, which will include a 40-lap main for the sprint cars, will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 7:00. Attached to this release is a photo of Cody Williams. Please feel free to use and please give photo credit to Stan Junior. No matter how big this race may be, the young driver has a bigger day on his horizon on June 10th. On that day he graduates from El Dorado High School in Yorba Linda. PAS promoter Don Kazarian thought it would be a good idea to have an early graduation party for Williams and some of his fellow classmates so he gave the young driver 500 tickets to pass out at school. When asked what his fellow classmates thought of him racing an 800 horsepower racecar on a half-mile dirt oval against some of the best drivers in the business, the well-mannered Williams shrugged and said, “They really do not know about it. I am hoping the thing we are doing here with the tickets will get them out here and keep them coming to the races.” Williams, who is also known to fans as “Cadillac Cody,” a moniker he picked up when he scored a touchdown for his High School football team, is very modest about the success he has achieved thus far. To make a long story short, he jumped into the famous black #3 after his father suffered a broken foot at The PAS season opener in February. When asked if he thought he would have the success he has had when he first jumped into the car, he said, “No, I really didn’t. I am just glad it did happen. I am sad that my Dad got hurt, but it did kind of helped me out.” When asked what happens when his dad is ready to return to the driver’s seat the teenager laughed and said, “Hopefully Jack (car owner Jack Jory) will bring out two cars.” Cody has a career high 10th place finish in a main event, but, as he points out, that has not been the highlight thus far. About a month ago the youngster had a half straight lead in the B main when his tire blew. After it was changed he had to restart at the back. On the last lap he had to pass two cars to get to sixth place, which is the final transfer spot into the main. He passed both cars including the second one as they raced under the Eddie Ramirez checkered flag. The late race effort sent the crowd into a roar that is usually only heard for the main event winning driver. Even though high school is almost behind him, Williams said he would be hitting the books again come September when he starts college. “I am going to go to Junior College and take some welding and metal classes. And, just race,” he said with a grin. For an 18-year old, Williams is well grounded and has a level head. Unlike some kids, he is not into predicting that he is going to be Richard Petty, Mario Andretti and A.J. Foyt all rolled into one. Instead, when the modest driver is asked what his racing future holds, he said, “I am just going to go as far as my talent will take me. For now I want to thank Jack and Sharon Jory for letting me drive the car. Also, John Jory Corporation, AMA Plastics and the whole crew for helping me out.” When asked about his part in giving Williams 500 tickets for his fellow classmates, Kazarian said, “He is a great kid and has a bright future in the sport. In less than three months, he has become one of the most popular drivers at the track. It is our honor to let so many of his classmates see what he does on a Saturday night and expose them to racing. Hopefully a lot of them will become regulars at The PAS.” Riverside’s Johnny Lathrop, a longtime ago Figure 8 champion at Corona and Orange Show, has a five-point lead in the PASSCAR Modified standings over Hemet’s Kevin Busher heading into Saturday’s race. Two-time IMCA State champion Clay Daly of Watsonville, who won the last Modified race at The PAS, is third. Any adult fan that wears a purple shirt will save $6.00 off their admission price as The PAS raises funds for the Power of Purple month in honor of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Saturday’s open wheel doubleheader will include qualifying, ten lap heat races, a 12-lap B main event and a 10 laps longer 40-lap A main event for the sprint cars. The Modifieds will contest heats and a 20-lap main event. And, for the kids, there will be a Big Wheel heat race during one of the breaks in the action and, of course, the popular PAS Dance Contest at intermission. Advance tickets for Saturday’s USAC/CRA race and night of family fun are available now by calling (800) 595-4849 or (951) 940-0134. You can also order tickets on the Internet at tix.com or perrisautospeedway.com. Anyone wishing more information could contact Perris Auto Speedway at (951) 940-0134. MAJOR LEAGUE SPRINT CAR RACING AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY THIS SATURDAY NIGHT! (MARCH 25, 2008, PERRIS, CA) While the first pitch of the Baseball regular season will not be thrown in Southern California until next Monday, fans can till catch some STEROID FREE Major League action – that is Major League Sprint Car Action – this Saturday night, March 29th, when Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply presents the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars at Don Kazarian’s famous Perris Auto Speedway. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 7:00. The highly competitive series has produced six different winners in the first seven races of 2008 heading into Saturday’s showdown at The PAS. Ventura’s Cory Kruseman, the 2006 USAC/CRA champion, is the only driver with two main event wins thus far in 2008. He scored both of his victories at The PAS season opening weekend on February 8th and 9th. When the cars take to the brightly lit half-mile clay oval on Saturday, the 37 year old father of one will bring a slim 5-point lead over Temecula’s Mike Spencer in the championship standings. Spencer, a 26-year-old engineering graduate from Cal Poly Pomona, took advantage of a break in the USAC/CRA schedule last week to win the VRA main event at Jim Naylor’s Ventura Raceway. Hard driving “Showtime” Danny Sheridan won the last race at The PAS three weeks ago. The Santa Maria veteran scored his third ever PAS 410 win by besting teenage sensation Nick Faas, of Huntington Beach, and Spencer. One of the pre season favorites for the championship, Sheridan, who has had some mechanical gremlins early in the campaign, currently sits sixth in the standings. Kruseman, Spencer, Sheridan and Faas are all expected to be in action this Saturday night along with defending series Champion Tony Jones and Tyler Brown, both of Norco, Manzanita fast qualifier “The Bullet” Blake Miller or Yorba Linda, Garrett Hansen of Manhattan Beach, Camarillo’s Josh Ford, “Dynamite David” Cardey of Riverside and a full field of USAC/CRA regulars. Local fans are starving for the action, as it will be the first appearance of the popular cars at The PAS in three weeks. And, it will only be the fifth USAC/CRA Series race on their home track since last November. However, local fans can begin to breath a sigh of relief, as the series will revert to its almost every other week at The PAS format starting with Saturday’s event. In fact, beginning Saturday, the next five USAC/CRA races will all be at The PAS. Saturday’s non-fendered 410 free for all will be fun for the whole family. The racing action will include qualifying, four ten lap heat races, a sudden death style 12 lap B main and a slide job filled 30 lap A main event. And, for the kids, there will be a Big Wheel heat race during one of the breaks in the action and, of course, the popular PAS Dance Contest at intermission. North Highlands, Calif. After months of preparation and testing, Rob Dixons RTD Motorsports, Inc., with driver Mike Gallegos, is ready to tackle the 2008 NASCAR Camping World Series West opener Saturday night. The 25-year old Gallegos will compete in the #34 RTD Motorsports Chevrolet in the Toyota Napa Auto Care 150 at All American Speedway in Roseville, CA. A sellout crowd is expected for the event. Gallegos, of Wheat Ridge, CO, has a long-standing friendship and association with Dixon. 2008 will mark Dixons debut as a car owner and Gallegos was his obvious choice for his first driver. Dixons roots trace back to Colorado and his work with driver Rick Carelli. Dixon has also worked with Bill McAnally Racing, Thompson Motorsports, and Justin Lofton, earning a reputation as one of the top fabricators and crew chiefs in the business. RTD Motorsports is partnered with NASCARs Drive for Diversity initiative, which places minority and female drivers into top NASCAR development rides. This will be Gallegos fourth season in the program. A Drive for Diversity driver has never won a NASCAR Camping World Series race, but Gallegos seems poised to be the first. His career began in 1998 in karting. Gallegos then advanced through the Legends ranks quickly and in 2001 became the youngest Late Model driver in Colorado history. Gallegos best season was in 2006, when he finished seventh in the NASCAR Midwest Series. He concluded the season with a 12th place finish in the prestigious Toyota All-Star Showdown. The veteran driver has long been one of Californias top talents, but has run an abbreviated schedule over the last handful of seasons while maintaining the highly successful BR Motorsports racing shop. Robertson won the Silver Dollar Speedway title in 2003, but hasnt been a full-time sprint car driver since 04. "Super Blake" scored a fourth place finish during a World of Outlaw event at the Thunderbowl in '03 and also picked up a fifth place finish at the Gold Cup Race of Champions in '04 at Silver Dollar. Robertson will be racing the potent Doyles Harley Davidson No. 1hd this Saturday, which is tuned by talented crew chief Paul Silva who is regarded as one of the best young wrenches in all of sprint car racing. Last season saw Robertson attempt to compete at the Thunderbowl during a GSC event in Silvas own No. 57, but motor issues put an early end to that night. In his career he has won mulitple times at the Thunderbowl and has been widely regared as one of the top qualifies on the west coast. His last victory in GSC competition came in '01 however, and he will most certainly like to change that this weekend. Robertson did compete at the track in '06 during the Pombo/Sargent Classic where he finished runner-up on opening night. Super Blake will be joined by a number of other top drivers on Saturday at 1/3 mile clay oval including Jason Meyers, Shane Stewart, Tim Kaeding, Jonathan Allard, Brent Kaeding, Tyler Walker, Brad Sweet, Roger Crockett, Mike Henry, Bud Kaeding, Jason Statler, Kyle Hirst, Evan Suggs and many more. Log onto http://www.thunderbowlraceway.com to view a seating chart and then call (559) 688-0909 to get the tickets you want. Also featured on the bill are the Western States Modifieds. |
